Happy New Year!
I hope this post finds everybody doing well.
We ended 2010 on a great note. The board voted unanimously to move towards a role-based model and began reviewing our strategic plan. I’m an advocate for these type of structures as I think they are better for engaging members and maximizing limited resource – something *very* needed!
I’m remaining as a part time executive director, helping with our current projects as well as the new board transition. If you’re looking to get a hold of me or anybody on the board, email will be your best route as our office hours are going to be mixed over the next few months. My email is: Jamie(at)necdc.org.
Jackson Street Artist Housing
We are proud that thanks to the support of our lenders and partners (especially Artspace!) and the hard work of our board, a valuable community project has been able to withstand a very turbulent economy.
The Jackson Street Artist Housing project will be moving forward, and we’ve even had some great press about it recently!
Great Cities: Business Improvement District Research
The NE CDC is partnering with four other groups to research Business Improvement Districts and their feasibility in the various areas as well as to identify the process of facilitating the transition. Stay tuned for updates and information about this project by visiting www.great-cities.org/.
The Northeast Futures conversations of 2010 evolved into two distinct groups – the Arts committee and Cycling/The Environment. The arts committee is now focusing on long-term sustainability for artists in Northeast, paying particular attention to artist-owned housing and buildings in the area. This group will be working alongside NEMAA and other community organizations using the Arts Action Plan – if you’d like to get involved, let us know!
The cycling and environment committee is working out the schematics for a community-wide event in 2012. More details on that as things progress!
The Northeast Community Development Corporation was put in place to serve Northeast and help facilitate projects that benefit the thirteen neighborhoods. To make sure we’re keeping true to our founding purpose and mission, one of the roles on our new board is a Neighborhood Organization Liaison. This position will act as a liaison to the organizations, continually connecting them to and/or with our services and goals.
As we grow, we want to make sure we’re keeping the community in mind with the work we do as well as the services we provide.
Do you want to get involved in shaping the future of the Northeast CDC and Northeast Minneapolis? The following board positions are open:
The function of the Secretary is to organize and compile organizational and corporate documents, including minutes and paperwork of the board, bylaws, and articles of incorporation. This officer’s role can be combined with another role as desired or needed.
The function of the Community Relations Director is to guide the organization’s reputation in the community, sending press releases, newsletters, and building relationships.
The function of the Development Director is to maintain, develop, oversee and/or implement the fundraising strategy of the organization, including fundraisers, appeals, and grant proposals.
To apply please submit a cover letter and resume to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks for taking the time to read through these updates! I hope you stay in touch and consider getting involved. Along with our board and volunteers, I’m really looking forward to doing great things for Northeast with you in 2011.
