Mmm, what goes better than bikes and coffee?? With Northeast Ride kicking of at 10am we wanted to make sure that folks were well caffeinated before we asked them to participate in creative activities! Happily, Peace Coffee came to the rescue and will be providing delicious coffee for participants at our starting location, the Northeast Armory.
No stranger to the joys of bicycling, Peace Coffee even has cyclists that deliver their coffee locally! I learned all about the bike delivery crew when I visited Peace Coffee a few years ago while working with Bike Walk Twin Cities. I tried my best to keep up with one of their bikers last winter –even without several hundred pounds of coffee, I was the one that slipped on the ice!
Born out of a 1996 conversation between the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy and a group of Mexican farmers, Peace Coffee has a strong commitment to providing 100% fair-trade, organic coffee to Twin Cities coffee drinkers. They even co-founded Cooperative Coffees, an importing co-op of coffee roasters throughout North America. Through the cooperative model they are able to pay industry-leading prices to producers and return more of the price of each pound back to the people who grew it. You can use an interactive map to find out more about where their coffee is grown and sourced.
